Champions Volunteer Foundation Gives Nearly $250,000
The Champions Volunteer Foundation – a one-of-a-kind organization comprised of people who have come together to donate their time to raise funds for charitable causes in the desert community – gave nearly $250,000 throughout the 2019 grant application period.
As the primary beneficiary of the BNP Paribas Open – the Foundation raised over $60,000 at the 2019 tournament through its annual silent auction, which included memorable experiences such as an opening match coin toss in Stadium 1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Foundation represents a diverse group of people who embody how sports has the unique ability to bring people together and be a powerful philanthropic force for good. In addition to raising money for charitable organizations in the Coachella Valley, the Foundation also provides more than 1,200+ volunteers who allow the BNP Paribas Open to operate soundly day in and day out.
Through a grant application process, the Foundation redistributes funds to the local community through other non-profit organizations that support youth, recreational, educational and well-care programs. In 2019, the Foundation raised funds for local community partners such as the Boys and Girls Club of the Coachella Valley, Desert Cancer Foundation, Family YMCA of the Desert and many others. Since its inception in 2002, the Foundation has donated nearly $2 million to over 50 local charities.
Over recent years, the Foundation has steadily increased the number of grants awarded to keep up with the growing demand from the local community for financial assistance. As the organization has grown and its local impact become more recognizable, The Foundation has expanded upon its mission to give back to those who need it most and support organizations that might otherwise be turned away.
Due to its affiliation with the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the organization also provides unique volunteer opportunities for a variety of other local sporting events held at the world-class sports and entertainment facility, including the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships, Indian Wells Art Festival, Adidas Easter Bowl and more.
